Young Artist Spotlight: Sarah King

Sarah grew up feeling at home in the Vermont folk scene – sleeping in piles of coats in the corner at contra dances and being inspired every summer at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival.  Later, she started learning fiddle tunes and performing all over the state with Fiddleheads.  She now goes to school at Vassar College in New York, but still loves to play with other people at every opportunity.  Her favorite types of tunes are Irish, Old Time, Cape Breton or Quebecois depending on the week (or the moment), and the tunes she writes reflect this variety as well as an occasional twist of jazz.

Sarah says: “One of the things that makes folk music so special is that it is so communal.  I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones who are part of the community of Young Tradition.”
