2014 Young Tradition Weekend

May 9th through May 11th

Young Tradition Vermont Burlington Parks and Recreation, Integrated Arts Academy, Queen City Contras, Vermont Children’s Hospital, Shelburne Museum, New City Galerie, Vermont Folklife Center and others will present a weekend of young folks doing old stuff….. dancing, singing and playing

Young Tradition Weekend, Friday May 9th through Sunday May 11th

  • school assembly with Adina Gordon, Sarah King and Brian Perkins at the Integrated Arts Academy in Burlington on Friday at the end of the school day (not a public event, for student at IAA only)
  • contra dance with Amelia Fontein and Guillaume Sparrow-Pepin (callers) and Jokers Wild at the Town Hall in Shelburne on Friday 8pm to 11pm
  • contest featuring over 70 contestants during Kid’s Day at Battery Park on Saturday 11am to 3pm
  • Jokers Wild performance on Baird 5 at Fletcher Allen Health Care on Saturday 1pm+ (not a public event)
  • awards reception in the lobby, followed by a Les Poules a Colin concert in Contois Auditorium at City Hall on Saturday (6pm+ reception, 7pm+ concert)
  • performances by Fiddleheads at SpringFest at Shelburne Museum on Sunday 1pm and 2pm
  • winners concert with the Piper’s Den (2013 winners Tristan Henderson and Hazen Metro with Rob Ryan) and 2014 winners at New City Galerie on Sunday 7pm+

Promoting, supporting and celebrating children, youth, and young adults singing, playing, and dancing in traditional styles, developing and experimenting as part of living traditions passed down from previous generations. Participants are young in age, but ‘old souls’, the latest in a long line of tradition, at the intersection of the past and the future.
