Trad Camp instructors and campers will be performing an evening showcase concert at the Intervale Center on July 26, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. as part of Summervale, the Intervale’s celebration of farms, local food, family, and friends. Come sample local food and brews while listening to great music by wonderful musicians.
Performing will be Trad Camp instructors Pete Sutherland, Brian Perkins and Oliver Scanlon and Trad Camp students, along with special Québecois guests Pascal Gemme, Yann Falquet and Marie Soleil-Pilette.
Pascal Gemme is a leading light in Québec’s traditional music scene. Pascal is the fiddler, singer and arranger of the band, Genticorum, whose CDs have met with critical acclaim in several countries. He has teaches weekly at the Ecole des Arts de la Veillée in Montreal, as well as at music workshops and master classes around the world. Pascal also works as a music producer and his CD, “L’Amant Confesseur” was nominated for a Canadian Folk award.
Yann Falquet is a very active and creative acoustic guitar player in the Québécois music scene. He has explored many styles of music and developed a personal guitar style for Québec folk music, inspired by the playing of the accompanists of different cultures (Brittany, Scandinavia, Ireland, North America). Yann has performed on numerous recordings and toured regularly throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe and Australia with the band Genticorum. He also toured for three years with the award winning Celtic and world group The McDades.
Marie Soleil-Pilette has been a dancer and choreographer since the early 2000’s, and has been trained in traditional Québecois gigue style. Founder of the Sans Temps dance company, Marie has played a leading role in the revival of traditional dance on stage. Her choreography combines Québecois jigging, percussive dance and contemporary dance in a unique way. Her works have been presented throughout Québec and abroad.
Trad Camp is Young Tradition Vermont’s annual summer day camp held at the Lake Champlain Waldorf High School in Shelburne, VT for kids ages 8-17. The camp is a concentrated opportunity to be inspired by, learn about and perform folk tunes, songs, and dances in a variety of traditional styles.
