Franco American Singing School

Thanks to everyone involved with the Franco American Singing School that completed a 7-week run with an end-of-session Soirée in Essex Junction on Monday, November 5. Deepest appreciation to Carmen Beaudoin Bombardier and Kimberly Chase for teaching, leading, encouraging, and hosting all of the sessions in their homes. Andy Kolovos and Vermont Folklife Center made it all possible as a partner with Young Tradition Vermont, and Lisa Ornstein provided scholarly and heartfelt expertise, interest, focus and encouragement. Appreciation to the 25-30 people who attended the sessions, including folks from teenagers to great grandparents.

Everyone enjoyed the Soirée at Kim’s house to finish the class off, sending everyone into the night with full stomachs, and French songs in their heads, in their hearts, and on their lips. The class was so successful and enjoyable, there is certainly talk of the possibility of more in the future. If you are interested in that possibility, and weren’t involved in the just completed class, please send me a message I will make sure you are on the list (mark.sustic@gmail.com). Kim, Carmen, and everyone in the class will be singing on May 4, 2019 during the Young Tradition Festival at City Hall in Burlington, as contribution to the Martha Pellerin Tribute Concert. The concert will start at 3pm that day, and will include other guests, including members of Martha‘s family, Benoit Bourque, Michele Choiniere, Dana Whittle, Claude Méthé and more. We expect there will be more singing by this group, but this is the only event confirmed on the schedule at the moment. Others singing French songs during the Tradition Festival (4/29/19 through 5/5/19) will include Genticorum and some special surprise guests TBA.
