Come celebrate Mardi Gras with live music from Yankee Chank, Big Night, & Ponyhustle! Mardi Gras, French for ‘Fat Tuesday,’ is celebrated around the world as the last night of dancing, feasting, and partying before Lenten fasting begins on Ash Wednesday.
This Burlington-based Mardi Gras celebration takes place March 5 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm at Hotel Vermont (41 Cherry St), and benefits the Tom Sustic Fund. The Fund provides ongoing support for families of children with life-altering conditions at UVM Medical Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Originally established to help Tom Sustic’s family underwrite the costs of a bone marrow transplant, the Fund was repurposed in his honor in 2001 to provide support for other families in need. Drs. Alan Homans, Fred Holmes, and Lewis First, and Ms. Pam McCarthy of the Vermont Family Network will speak about the Fund’s value to children and their families.
Presented by Young Tradition Vermont and Hotel Vermont with support provided by the Vermont Family Network, the UVM Vermont Children’s Hospital, the Alchemist, Shelburne Vineyard and others. Tickets at Seven Days. More info at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Yankee Chank is a group of musicians from throughout New England who perform traditional dance music from Southwest Louisiana. Band members are Bob Naess, Cannon Labrie, June Drucker, Mark Sustic, and Jim Burns.
Inspired by past and current music and dance from southwest Louisiana and Texas, and dedicated to the idea that every person deserves an opportunity to two-step, Big Night is a group of Burlington-based musicians playing a mix of Cajun, western swing, Zydeco and classic country.
Pony Hustle plays at Radio Bean every Tuesday for Honky Tonk classics, fitting originals & plenty of swingin’ dancers to boot! The band includes Eric George, Colin Cope, Mia Valentini, Cody Sergeant, Luke Houseman, Erich Meisberger, and John Abair.
