Thanks all who helped with Burlington’s contribution to the global celebration of World Fiddle Day, including Rachel Currier and Kathy Reilly at the shop, and the players: Annabel Moynihan and students, Sarah Hotchkiss, John Mowad and students, Neil Rossi and Darcy and Dale Cahill, Dana Holmlund, Zach Mills and Gimmel, Maggie Gerty, Cailin Fitzgerald. We saw and heard fiddles of course, but also Hardanger fiddle and Sarangai.
World Fiddle Day was founded by Donegal fiddler Caoimhin Mac Aoidh in 2012. The May date was chosen to coincide with the 1737 death of Italian violin craftsman Antonio Stradivari. It is celebrated annually on the Saturday closest to May 19th. Its one day when players of the fiddle family of instruments – violins, violas, cellos, double basses, hardangers, viola da gambas etc. can celebrate its beauty.
