The Youth Commission is one of the 30 programs offered by Young Tradition Vermont. A member of the Young Tradition Touring Group is identified as the YTV commission/ambassador for the year – this year that person is Romy Munkres. She is charged with creating a small ensemble (4-6 members) and a program of original compositions/arrangements with mentors/master artists of her choosing, which will be presented at performances, festivals and other events in the Northeast.
The commissioned artist selected each year is expected to have been a winner or finalist at the Young Tradition Vermont annual contest, selected as an artist leader for the Touring Group, and performed in Vermont as well with at least one or more of the Touring Group tours (in England, Ireland, Cape Breton, Scotland, Japan, metro New York/New Jersey).
The commissioned artist is in charge of rehearsals and works closely with the Young Tradition Vermont Executive Director about progress, challenges, opportunities, etc. Its a next-step opportunity after young performers who have been involved with the Touring Group for a number of years, in addition to the annual contest and showing promise as a composer/arranger/band leader, etc.
A major emphasis is having the commissioned artist and the ensemble represent the YTV organization as ambassador, and availability for projects and opportunities, including those the full Touring Group can’t manage because of its size (25-30 members).
