9/1 was the deadline for accepting invitations to the Young Tradition Touring Group. As of early that morning, before packing and launching for New World Festival in Randolph, 22 had made the commitments and agreed to join the Touring Group. The minimum was 20, so we’re moving ahead.
Mark Sustic is still in the manager role, Pete Sutherland has transitioned out as artist leader, Oliver Scanlon has stepped into that role, and Romy Munkres has stepped in to the youth artist leader role, which Oliver did the last few years.
The manager does most everything other than prepare and teach the music content – that is the artist leader role. There is a transition plan for manager, with Kristin Bolton and Andrew Munkres sharing an in-training role this year…. next year one of them (or shared again maybe) would share the manager role with Mark, and then someone takes the manager lead with Mark stepping back or away the year after that.
The itinerary for the April trip to Japan is still in process. Activities will include performances, interactions with other young musicians and dancers, sessions, dances, workshops and site-seeing. More information on all that to come.
