Altan 3/2/20 at FlynnSpace

In what was likely our last capacity concert presentation for while, Altan paid us a visit on 3/2/20 at FlynnSpace in Burlington.  It was an honor and pleasure to present the concert as part of the Burlington Irish Heritage Festival, which got started the previous weekend and would have continued through the end of March if it weren’t for the COVID-19 related cancellations starting that same weekend.

Thanks to Stefan Jacobs and the Flynn for making the space possible, Oliver Scanlon for helping make sure the sound system was set up and ready, Jim Shields for taking care of the pre-concert meal,  Tim Weaver and Hotel Vermont for helping with accommodations, and Mairead, Ciaran, Martin, Daithi and Nia for making it to Burlington before moving on to Texas and the west coast.  Unfortunately they had to cancel a good chunk of their tour and head back home shortly after Burlington, making the chance to see them all that much more important.

We had the $5,500 violin donated by Vermont Violins/Burlington Violin Shop on display and we sold some tickets for that to support the Young Tradition Touring Group.  At that point, the Touring Group had just announced that the April trip to Japan had to be cancelled – we have since worked on several alternatives, including trips to Quebec, southern New England, and upstate New York, but those have now been cancelled as well because of the  COVID-19 virus.  Current plans are to record a CD and/or a music video featuring the group, and we could still use help to make those happen – raffle tickets are $10 each, three for $25 (mark.sustic@gmail.com for info).  The winner will be announced the evening of 5/2/20.

We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have this group of friends back, to see and hear them again in one of the most intimate settings they have played in on recent tours – it was a rare and welcome treat.
