If your team is up by thirty points at halftime, it’s not optimistic to expect that you’re going to win–it’s a realistic assessment. Optimism is an attitude and a choice. It involves context and focus. We’re not deluding ourselves with the reassurance that everything is going to be okay (because that’s not productive). Instead, we’re committed to finding things we can contribute to, work on and improve. We’re devoted to seeking out useful lessons and to discovering where the benefit of the doubt might be helpful. Positive thinking doesn’t solve every problem. But it’s a much better tool than negative thinking.
Virtual rehearsals continue for the 2020/2021 Young Tradition Touring Group, including September 19th at 10am. Rehearsals are designed to go to at least 11am, but not later than 11:30am, and happen every 1st and 3rd Saturday through early December. By mid-December we will make a decision about in-person or online rehearsals into the new year, January through April 2021. Rehearsal dates scheduled through mid-December include: 10/17, 11/7, 11/21, 12/5.
These involve announcements at the beginning of the rehearsal – though written updates are partly designed to share info and keep the announcements to a minimum at the rehearsals. We do some sort of activity to hear from and see everyone in the group individually. Artist leaders talk about/teach some material. All rehearsals are video recorded, and any group member or parent of a group member can request a copy.
Still focusing on traveling to and around Quebec in late April (leave not before 4/17/21, return not later than 4/25/21). Assuming that all works out, we’re planning to connect with a wide range of trad musicians and dancers in the Eastern Townships, and near and around Gaspe, Quebec City, Joliette and Montreal.
Members of the touring group who have a program of 15 or 20 minutes they can present solo or with 1 or 2 other group members will be part of a series live stream concerts in coming months. Those members record 10 to 15 minutes in advance on YouTube and then schedule a live stream including an interview before and after the performance recording. These are presented by Young Tradition Vermont for the Touring Group. Material might be but doesn’t have to be Touring Group songs, dances, or tunes. We will ask for a minimum $5 donation from viewers, and will split the proceeds between the group members and the organization, to support the Touring Group project. Touring Group alumni and current members are being invited. Each program is expected to last no more than 30 minutes. Presentations will include any type of music, whatever members are currently into/working on. We may use these for other situations, like virtual hospital visits, nursing homes, senior living facilities, adult day programs, school assemblies, festivals, child care programs, etc.
We have another Zoom meeting for parents of group members scheduled on 10/3/20 starting at 11:30am. These meetings are just one of several opportunities parents have to talk with group leaders, ask questions, make requests/suggestions, etc. Totally fine for parents to contact any of the leadership team individually, any time, in addition to or instead of the Zoom meeting.
In addition to the leadership team (Oliver, Kristin, Fern, Hilary and Mark), and group members, we have space for a few additional adults for the April trip. A few have expressed interest in traveling with the group. Criteria for adult travelers at this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AeFkArOCOLa7NA6jj6fHx7JXpyVpK7cM-KB0YIrQflU/edit. Anything Else?
