Town Hall Theater in Middlebury is presenting the Young Tradition Youth Commission ensemble today (5/1/21) as part of a series titled: ‘Bundle! Markets 21.’ The Youth Commission will play at the top of Town Hall Theater’s steps, socially distanced, masked and all other pandemic precautions and considerations in place.
The 2020/2021 Youth Commission led by Maeve Fairfax continues to rehearse, learn from mentors including Moira Smiley, Deb Flanders, Dominique Dodge and Pete Sutherland, and prepare for performances and an EP CD project. Maeve was featured in a Kid’s VT article released in early February, everyone performed at a CD release event in January (for the 2019/202 group led by Romy Munkres), and Maeve and Romy talked about the project for an online presentation at the Flurry Festival based in Saratoga Springs on February 14. The group has regular in person rehearsals, which will include recording sessions with Colin McCaffrey in May and June. In addition to YTV, and their friends, family, neighbors and mentors, the Youth Commission project has been made possible in part by support from the Nelson Family Foundation.
There will be a food truck today. This event is the icing on a carefully curated cake of arts activities and artisans all along Merchants Row and around Town Hall Theater, thanks to Kelly Hickey. Just the start of summer and a season of more outdoor happenings!
