Abhisek started performing in public at an early age of 11 years though he got his first break in the national level in 1997 when he was invited by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia to play at “Saath Saath Festival” and that year he also gave his debut performance abroad in Holland at the “World Kinder Festival” where he was named as a ‘Wonder Kid’.
That was just the commencement of an outstanding prodigy’s lifelong commitment towards music which later led to extensive concerts through Europe, U.K., U.S.A., Canada, Africa, Sri Lanka, Japan, Singapore, and Bangladesh apart from India. He with his father Pandit Alok Lahiri holds the dignity of performing as the first Indian at the European Parliament in France, Cannes World Music Festival and also in Canada Culture Days in Toronto. Abhisek has created an amalgamation with the Japanese Guitarist Hideaki Tsuji and his group Ionah which represents world music and has received worldwide recognition. Abhisek’s music albums “Sparkling Sarod” was nominated at GIMA (Global Indian Music Awards) in 2010 and in 2014 again his album “Mood Of Puriya Kalyan” was nominated along with Indian legends Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Rashid Khan and many more.
Tabla player Subrata Bhattacharya has accompanied of some of the most renowned Indian classical musicians. He has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in India, the USA, the Middle East, and Europe. He received his taalim under Shri Tamal Krishna Chatterjee, Shri Nripen Karmakar and Shri Tapan Kr. Banerjee before he was finally accepted as a pupil of tabla maestro Pt. Shankar Ghosh. He has since proved himself a worthy exponent of the Farukhabad Gharana and has been awarded the Sangeet Prabhankar, the Gold Medal, the Saangeet Praveen from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahadad, and Sangeet Bhushan from the Bhatkhande College, Lucknow. Subrata was a visiting professor at the Universty of Urbana, Champaign, IL. Recently, he has focused his talent and innovation in “Naad- The Everlasting Sound”, a group he has formed to experiment with fusion music, a mingling and merging of eastern, middle eastern and western styles of music. He has also been a part of the Chicago based Indo -Jazz band Flat Earth Ensemble since its inception.
