26 October 2019 - 27 October 2019 All day The Left Bank
Our ninth annual Bennington songwriting gathering will take place Saturday and Sunday the 26th and 27th of October, 2019. The workshop will be held at The Left Bank, Main Street, North Bennington VT (a beautiful re-purposed bank building in the heart of our village; you can take a look at www.leftbankllc.org).
Bennington is a wonderful place to visit, and the leaves should be putting on their annual show. There are many types of accommodations in the area, from basic motel rooms to lovely B&Bs. There are also many good places to eat within walking distance of the venue. Information on the town and hotels and restaurants as well as local attractions can be found at www.bennington.com.
While our significant others (kids are welcome too) explore the area, those of us dedicated to improving our songwriting will work from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Saturday and 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Sunday.
From 7:00 to 10:00 PM Saturday night we’ll host an open mic (open to participants and to the local community), and we’ll all get to perform for the whole group. Attendance for the evenings isn’t mandatory in case you’d rather enjoy your evening in town.
We must limit the workshop to just twelve people. We will do some teaching but we’ve found that the best use of the time we have together is to listen to each other’s songs and discuss the issues that are common to all of us. It does seem that one round of songs will bring up just about all of the relevant issues, and it’s helpful to see how people have found different solutions to some of the same problems.
The cost of the workshop is $80 (we encourage you to attend both days, but if that’s not possible, you may attend just one day for $40 if we have space). We ask that those who wish to reserve a place send $40 in advance. If you are registering for both days, you can pay for the second day at the time of the workshop, if you wish. Please make your check payable to Compass Rose Music.
You may wish to order Steve’s book, Songwriting and the Creative Process, if you don’t already have it. You can order it from our online store.
We encourage serious songwriters from all skill levels. We feel we have a lot to share with each other, and that spending time together will have many benefits only one of which is improving our songwriting. We will have a CD player on hand. Please let us know if you have any other questions; we look forward to discussing the project with you.
