The Wild Fern

Claudine Langille and Silas Hamilton are 2/5 of Vermont’s rockin’ Celtic band, Gypsy Reel and 2/3 of toe-tappin’ contradance groove band, The Shrewd Berries.  They are both multi-instrumentalists (Claudine plays mandolin, tenor banjo and guitar, Silas plays DADGAD guitar, fiddle, mandolin and button accordion), and both sing.  Both are world travelers and have played in some amazing spots-Claudine in Guatemala, Silas in China, and they played together last spring along the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland.

Claudine is best known for her work with Touchstone, the award winning Celtic Appalachian fusion band of the 1980s, and The Fiddletree of Cape Breton Nova Scotia, both international touring groups. Silas is a native son of rural Vermont, and is packing to go on a tour of Europe with the singing group Village Harmony. Silas plays with a driving yet intricate rhythm, adept at capturing Irish and Quebecois expressions.

“Claudine can really cook on mandolin and flat picked tenor banjo, and her lead and harmony vocals were a highlight.” -Boston Globe.

These two world travelers love The Wild Fern, one of the sweetest spots in the Universe!
