22 May 2020 7:45 pm - 11:00 pm O'Brien Community Center
We’re excited to announce that we’ll be starting a monthly Community Contra Dance on the 4th Friday of every month at the O’Brien Center Ballroom. The first dance is on February 28th. It will be organized by North End Studios with the support of Queen City Contras. The dancing is done to live music played on fiddles and piano, plus any other instruments that show up on a particular evening. The steps are easy to learn, even if you’ve never tried it before, and there is a caller who teaches the dances and then continues to call out the steps after the music begins.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m., a short beginners’ session will be held at 7:45, and the dance will start at 8:00 p.m. People of all ages and any level of experience are encouraged to come. There will be an area for kids to congregate when they don’t feel like dancing, so definitely bring the family. There is also seating for adults who’d like to take a break, relax, and listen to the music.
Admission is by donation; suggested range is $5 to $15 per person. Refreshments will be available at low prices. Even if you can’t afford a donation, we hope you will come and enjoy the evening, meet your neighbors, and try something new. See you on the 28th!
Please come and spread the word,
Ben and April
