11 April 2020 10:00 am - 11:00 am Flynn Center for the Performing Arts
Young Tradition Vermont’s primary focus is children, youth and young adults and their involvement with traditional music and dance. The mission is to inspire young people, ensure opportunities for them to learn, that they have performing opportunities and to serve their communities, including families with children in life-altering situations. More info about YTV at their web site: www.youngtraditionvermont.org.
A group of teens will play and talk about the music they make and dance to, featuring members that are part of an annual commission featuring singers, dancers and players who perform as part of the Young Tradition Touring Group who will touring in Japan later in April and serving as ambassadors for the organization at festivals, concerts and others events throughout the Northeast and Quebec.
Romy Munkres, the main artist for the commission, and her brother Ben live in Cornwall. They have participated in Touring Group tours in Ireland, Cape Breton, Scotland, and metro New York/New Jersey. They won the 2018 Young Tradition Contest, held in Burlington in early May each year. Both have participated in Fiddleheads, Trad Camp, showcases and other YTV projects. They have been playing music together and with their parents for nearly 10 years, and have contributed to school music ensembles, the Vermont Youth Orchestra and the McFadden Academy of Irish Dance. And they have both participated in Vermont District and All State ensembles.
Join in for this free family musical program held in the Flynn’s lobby on the following Saturday mornings at 10am. These events are characterized by a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with families encouraged to choose their own adventure in terms of how long they engage, whether they use our always available headphones for persons with sensitivities to sound, whether they dance with their eyes or their whole selves, every family belongs at the Flynn Free Family Saturdays.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.
