21 February 2021 1:00 pm - 4:45 pm TBA online
Dear Friends of the Northeast Heritage Music Camp,
Greetings from the board! We hope the new year finds you well and as happy as possible in these turbulent times.
We’re all waiting to see what will happen with the summer’s camp but meanwhile we have arranged a Midwinter Gathering that will be very special and we hope many of you will attend.
Please register on our website starting January 21, and while you’re there, check out all our faculty, and see our plans for our week long summer camp northeastheritagemusiccamp.com.
The Midwinter Gathering
On February 21st from 1:00-4:45pm there will be an online program of two workshops, two mini concerts and a hangout. The two presenters from our faculty will be David Surette, the northeast’s premier guitar and mandolin maestro, and Katie McNally, the brilliant and irrepressible master of Scottish/Cape Breton fiddle. As always with NHMC workshops and classes, these workshops will be open to all instruments. The workshops will concentrate on repertoire and musicality useful to all musicians. David says “For this workshop, we will learn a three-part Breton Gavotte Suite (ton simpl, bal, ton doubl), one of the most popular and widespread traditional dances in Brittany, France.” Katie says “In this hour together, we’ll tackle a fun and flashy tune from Cape Breton called the New York Jig and also consider bowing, ornamentation, and groove.”
These events are all sequential so you can attend them all for the friendly cost of $25. A single link will get you into the program and you can access as much or as little as you can/want, dropping in and out if necessary. The workshops will include online materials, sheet music and sound files. These will be available well before the gathering. Please register early so you have time to practice with these materials. We will accept registrations up through 2/20/2021 however, if you can’t commit earlier.
