Paul Asbell began playing at age 12 on an acoustic guitar that his father had “broken in” backing pro-labor “people’s songs” at union rallies in the 1940s. Entirely self-taught, Paul’s earliest musical inspiration was drawn from his dad’s records by the likes of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Leadbelly, Uncle Dave Macon, and Jimmy Driftwood. Paul’s three solo acoustic CDs have received rave reviews in the national media for their fresh takes on blues and jazz standards, old-timey country tunes, and original compositions drawn from the “American roots” tradition.
