WILL ACKERMAN: THE GATHERING, 4 GUITARS
The Gathering, presented by Will Ackerman, founder of Windham Hill Records
An intimate evening of acoustic music featuring performances by the “4 Guitars” — renowned guitarists Will Ackerman, Trevor Gordon Hall, Todd Mosby, and Vin Downes.
One of the most exciting acoustic guitar tours of the year: The Gathering, presented by Will Ackerman, founder of Windham Hill Records. The Gathering features an intimate evening of acoustic music featuring performances by several of the most in-demand and innovative players today, the “4 Guitars,” renowned guitarists Grammy award-winner Will Ackerman, Trevor Gordon Hall, Todd Mosby, and Vin Downes.
Created by Ackerman in 2012, The Gathering was initially the title of a compilation album showcasing a host of cutting edge artists he was producing at the time. Proving to be wildly successful on the charts upon its release, over time the idea began to take shape and Ackerman decided to ‘take the show on the road.’ A highly popular event, The Gathering blossomed into a unique performance of whom he calls ‘the new generation of guitarists.’ Opening with a stellar performance by Ackerman, the evening continues on to feature three individual sets by Hall, Mosby, and Downes, culminating in an encore of all four guitarists playing together.
Will Ackerman is the Grammy award-winning founder of Windham Hill Records and world-renown producer of over 70 artists. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has been awarded 27 Gold and Platinum records in the US and internationally. Having sold Windham Hill to SONY/BMG in May of 1992, Ackerman has continued to produce musicians in the tradition of Windham Hill. Albums that Will has recently produced have continually received music industry awards and chart-topping positions. In 2013 Ackerman was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 9th Annual ZMR Music Awards.
Rated one of the “top 30 guitarists in the world under 30 years of age” by Acoustic Guitar magazine, Trevor Gordon Hall is an acoustic instrumentalist from Philadelphia whose compositions range in style from edgy driving rhythms to soft melodic phrases. Hall is also a player of the Kalimbatar, the only one of its kind in the world.
Todd Mosby, considered one of the finest jazz guitarists in the world, has played symphony halls, headlined jazz festivals, performed in concert venues, clubs, charity events across the globe, and was one of the first artists invited to perform in Russia following the end of the Cold War and Perestroika. A gifted guitarist, composer and improviser who has mastered multiple musical forms (jazz, classical and Indian raga), Mosby’s broad musical spectrum evokes highly creative works. Schooled in composition, guitar and improvisation at Berklee College of Music and live music performance with Tom Jackson Productions, Mosby delivers a live concert performance that engages audiences and takes them on a transformative musical journey. Mosby’s set features songs from his vast catalogue as well as new music from his latest album release On Eagle Mountain, produced with Ackerman.
Greatly influenced by the music of artists on Windham Hill Records in the late 1980’s, Vin Downes continued to pursue the art of finger-style guitar technique and composition. Earning a degree in classical guitar performance and music education from William Paterson University, Downes studied classical composition and had several of his compositions performed by soloists and ensembles, including the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, Helix Ensemble and members of the Composer’s Guild of New Jersey. www.MosbyMusicGroup.com
